Matches played Saturday 22nd March 2008
Spring arrives - and brings waterlogged pitches and fixture chaos.
With Spring having arrived, it was hoped that all the wet and inclement weather which had been endured over the football season, had been left behind, but nature has a habit of doing its own thing, and last Saturday waterlogged pitches were again the order of the day, and the resultant cancellations meant that only two of the scheduled Amateur League matches were able to take place.

The Division 1 fixture between South Holderness and Cavalier Wanderers featured two sides who can still finish high enough on the league ladder to gain automatic promotion to the Premier Division, and a closely contested game was inevitable, and swung first in favour of Cavalier when they opened the scoring, but by the half time break Andy Hardy had levelled for South Holderness.

The second half saw South Holderness turn the tables, and Andy Hardy’s second success put the hosts in front but Cavalier, who have been a difficult side to beat throughout the season, levelled the scores.

South Holderness were determined to collect the match spoils and again went ahead, Dave Rodgers recording their third goal, but Cavalier do not give up easily, and again came back to tie the scores, and take a share of the points.

The only other game to take place was Cottingham Hotspur’s last fixture of the season, at home to Tenyas FC where the pitch was eminently playable, with just the odd wet and soft spot.

The biting wind which blew across the open spaces of the recreation ground, made conditions inhospitable, and even more difficult for the beleaguered Tenyas side who, on the day, mustered only ten players.

Probably inevitably, Tenyas trailed by two goals at the break but battled bravely in the second half but were undone for a third time when their defence was suddenly outpaced and a shot past the helpless Paul Mudd in goal completed the scoring, although two efforts by Tenyas in the final minutes – one of which hit the woodwork - came close to reducing the final margin.
