Crown's triple dream shattered, but the double is still on!!
Crown FC have enjoyed a highly successful season despite struggling to cope with constant postponed fixtures caused in the main by the appalling wet conditions over the winter and have been further handicapped by their own playing successes which has seen them progress to two cup finals, and, to date, lead the Amateur League Premier Division as champions elect, a position which could be confirmed this week.

The progress in cup competitions has, in the latter stages of the competitions, been greatly helped by a goal scoring surge by centre forward Rob Pearce, who demolished Hessle Sporting Club almost single handedly to get the side to the ERCFA Intermediate Cup final.

Overconfidence when facing Hall Road Rangers Reserves in the showdown game was the likely cause of Crown’s inability to switch on in the first half, and a two goal half time deficit was a fair reflection of a dismal display.

The second half saw a different Crown emerge and they came close to pulling goals back, but the replies failed to materialise and further late goal from Hall Road deservedly determined the trophy destination to be Dene Park.

Crown’s second bite at cup success came in the League Senior Cup final where they faced Quaddy Rangers, and were fortunate to catch the North Hull side at a time when injuries were biting hard into their squad.

Quaddy were unable to get their game working after having to include three less than fit players in their line-up, and failed to get any telling shots on target, and Crown dealt comfortably with anything they did muster.

Quaddy were not so fortunate restraining Crown and Rob Pearce chose this game to again demonstrate his goal scoring prowess, and a success in each half was sufficient to enable Crown to clinch the Senior Cup for the third consecutive season.

An administrative problem prevented AFC Hull from fulfilling their last game of the season against Anlaby Park in Division 1 a fortnight ago, and a re-arrangement of the fixture was required, and took place last Saturday, and produced a ten goal bonanza.

The actual impact of the game as a title decider, had, however, been lost, as four days earlier, Anlaby Park had taken on Hull Athletic, the only side who could have stopped AFC Hull clinching the title, and inflicted a 4-2 defeat, leaving their opponents with having to be satisfied with a second place finish.

A pair of goals each from Mike Mews and Steve Embley set up Anlaby Park’s second notable scalp, by a 6-4 margin, in a game which produced a far different result to the recent first encounter between the teams.

The positions of the leading teams in Division 2, behind undefeated champions Skippers FC, who beat near rivals AFC Piper by 4-1 last weekend, are likely to be slightly affected by outstanding games which have become impossible to complete after being lost, generally due to adverse playing conditions, earlier in the season.
